Hi! My name is Kandi Zeller, and I’m kind of a nerd about spiritual practices. I’m a freelance writer/editor, and I’m also currently discerning a call to spiritual direction, with an emphasis on the ecumenical, interfaith, and trauma-informed companioning of those with religious trauma.
My spiritual director has compared my journey to variegated yarn. Lots of disparate threads together. And my journey with God has been about finding ways to integrate those threads in new and evolving ways as the seasons of my life change.
This metaphor of variegated yarn resonates with me for two reasons: (1) I love metaphors and (2) I love DIY-ing and I CANNOT resist variegated yarn or really anything with lots of colors/patterns. Basically, my whole career—in ministry and spiritual publishing—has involved weaving metaphor and DIY projects into spiritual practices and finding spiritual meaning in the beauty of the mundane, in every holy thread. It’s involved seeing divine love in all the places I wasn’t supposed to find it.
While I see that beauty in everything, I also see the chaos, the hurt, the systemic injustices. My own spiritual journey is a varied and complex history that includes both joy and pain. However, I’ve never been in a tradition where I didn’t find loving people, and I never want my words about my spiritual experience to be seen as hatred or ingratitude toward the lovely humans I’ve known along the way. As I write, I will always seek to hold everyone’s spiritual journey with care and kindness, even when/if I share some of the more painful parts of my own experience.
Basically, I’m a Christian with a very ecumenical and interfaith lens who is always filled with wonder at Jesus’s love and all the expressions of love I see in the universe God made. This is a place where I gather threads of disparate spiritual practices, creativity, and inspiration—all the threads in one metaphorical skein of variegated yarn.
Welcome!
In Wonder,

Love this metaphor of all the threads. I’m relatively new to Substack and looking around for the kindred spirits. I’m looking forward to reading more about your journey ✌🏼
