Tomorrow, All The Threads turns one year old, and I just wanted to thank all of you dear readers for coming along for the ride so far. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next 365 days hold. While the past year has not been easy in many ways, one of the things I’m most grateful for is this place where we’ve been able to have conversations about spiritual practices1 and finding healing after religious trauma—working together to weave creative and whimsical meaning and action, in resistance to unjust systems.
Substack has and continues to be a place where I’ve met so many wonderful friends. Over the past year, it’s also been a place:
where I could interview2 and learn from so many writers,
where I could safely come out as a neurodivergent, PTSD-having, queer, exvangelical, and witchy person,
where I could write as I developed my forthcoming book with Microcosm Publishing3
where I could talk about my editing work, which recently resulted in a full-time editing role, which I started in December, also at Microcosm.
I love the little community we’ve formed here, and I’m working on lots of “as spiritual practice” posts that I’m excited for.
Ya’ll, keep being magical, and I’m thrilled to see what’s next. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
(P. S. Let me know in the comments if you have suggestions about future topics I should cover here!)
In Wonder,
Kandi Zeller (she/her)
When I describe or experience any tool/practices as spiritual, I want to acknowledge that that is not everyone’s experience. Any practice/tool I share is meant for all, regardless of spiritual label (or lack of label) or whether you experience these tools as spiritual or as some other adjective(s). Labels, while helpful in describing our experiences, are ultimately insufficient, so I want to hold space for that tension here.
Definitely check out the ongoing series about safe spiritual spaces: so far, I’ve interviewed Trey Ferguson, Marla Taviano, Carolyn Baker, Lindsey Melden, Christine Greenwald, Amber Wylde, and Naiomi Gonzalez.
Right now, I’m working on post–dev edit revisions for the book, so things are coming along! More details to come about title, cover, book tour stuff, and important dates.
Happy birthday, All the Threads!
You and I probably need to interact more before you can tell if I'm a safe person and the Pilgrimage is a safe space, but I'd be honored to engage an interview if you ever felt like I'd fit what you're looking for, Kandi. As it happens, another witchy spiritual practitioner I've known for decades interviewed me for her podcast last week. (Episode to release at an undetermined time.) And you know. I'm friends with @Trey. 😊
Happy Birthday! I’m so glad to have met you in a small way through this space, and I look forward to learning from you for a long time! Thank you for sharing yourself and your stories with us. 💜
